About the Role
This opportunity has arisen from a joint initiative between the Clinical Stroke services and the Department of Brain Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College, that will be supported by the Department of Brain Sciences, St Mary’s Development Trust, private benefactors and ICHT.  This post will provide a first step towards developing an internationally leading clinical research programme for innovation in concepts or practice, relating to the prevention or treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, or care of stroke survivors. The programme is intended to provide academic leadership that will strengthen the clinical stroke service to maintain innovation and continue its national leadership for NHS hyperacute stroke management.  You will be expected to develop an academic programme in stroke science at Imperial College and Imperial College NHS Healthcare Trust (ICHT) while contributing to the stroke service and clinical care in the ICHT Hyperacute Stroke Unit at Charing Cross Hospital. The post will have up to 5 clinical sessions and at least 5 academic sessions.
Duties &  Responsibilities
  • You develop a broad range of research in Neurology or Geriatric Medicine or Acute General Medicine within the Department of Brain Sciences.
  • You direct, lead, or contribute to, a research area at the highest scientifically rigorous levels.
  • You will foster national and international scientific collaborations with other world-leading centres.
  • You will teach and supervise undergraduate, postgraduate, masters and high research degrees.
  • You will demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, academic teams, the Department, Faculty, College and when participating in national/international initiatives.

Essential Requirements
  • Full GMC (General Medical Council) registration
  • Specialty accreditation in Neurology or Geriatric Medicine or Acute General Medicine
  • Diploma in Stroke Medicine or equivalent experience
  • CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in the appropriate area
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • The post-holder should hold the membership of the relevant Royal College (UK) or an equivalent qualification
  • Further Higher Degree – MD, PhD or equivalent in a relevant area
  • A sustained track record in attracting high levels of research funding
  • An excellent record of research, evidenced by a portfolio of research publications, confirming international standing, commensurate with the level of appointment
  • Experience in leading the design of research programmes, particularly related to stroke
  • Experience of Training Undergraduate and Postgraduate students
  • Experience of supervision of higher degrees (PhD, MD(Res))
  • Experience of supervising junior medical staff
