Can lived experiences that enhance voice and visibility empower women of colour or help people to develop a critical consciousness around race and gender inequality?
These are questions that Dr Deborah Gabriel, Founder of Black British Academics and creator of the Ivory Tower project, hopes will be answered through a reader survey she has developed for Inside the Ivory Tower: Narratives of Women of Colour Surviving and Thriving in British Academia.
Dr Gabriel said:
“In the concluding chapter of Ivory Tower, I share my desire for our book to promote agency, principally by imparting new knowledge, which as Black feminist scholar Patricia Hill Collins argues – can lead to social transformation when people develop a critical consciousness about the complexities of inequality.”
It is hoped that the survey will reveal how the book is being used and how readers are engaging with it. The online survey can be accessed HERE
