Dr Gabriel has spent the last decade as an award-winning academic, achieving recognition both for her educational practice and research. She is currently based at Bournemouth University, where she lectures in politics, advertising, public relations and marketing communications. She specialises in social justice pedagogy and critical race pedagogy and teaches from a critical race/gender standpoint. Her key areas of research are: political discourse, communication and participation, race and representation in media and popular culture; the dynamics of race, ethnicity and culture in higher education, and pedagogical research. In addition to a full-time academic role, she is the Founder and Director of Black British Academics, undertaking consultancy work around race equality in higher education across academic, operational and educational practice, as well as developing and leading on collaborative projects.
